About the Firm
8th Street Strategies is led by Elly Spinweber Burke, MPH, a powerhouse communications strategist with 20+ years of experience across the health sector. The firm counsels health-related organizations and companies on corporate communications, public affairs, messaging and media strategy, executive positioning, and crisis and issues management.
Previously, Elly spent nearly a decade at FGS Global (fka The Glover Park Group), one of the world’s premier communications advisory firms. There she helped health clients—including major U.S. health systems, Fortune 10 companies, trade associations, non-profits, and start-ups—shape the conversation around corporate reputation, policy and regulatory matters, workforce and labor concerns, M&A, digital transformation, and crisis moments. She coached and led client teams focused on media relations, executive positioning, thought leadership, crisis planning, messaging, and more.
Before joining FGS, Elly served as Director of Communications and Marketing for the Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA), part of then-First Lady Michelle Obama’s work to end childhood obesity. As one of PHA’s earliest employees, she helped build its communications shop from the ground up. Earlier in her career, she led media relations strategy for AARP’s health products and charitable and volunteer initiatives and managed communications efforts for non-profit and federal government health clients at two Washington, DC-based communications firms.
Elly holds a master’s degree in public health from George Mason University and bachelor’s degrees in journalism and international politics from Penn State.
